PRINT MAKING Gelatin Monotype Printing NEW DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED Printmaking Without a Press! This is a non toxic printmaking method. We will be using water based inks and paints. The class will use gelatin as the plate upon which the image is created. Students will be encouraged to explore a variety of mark making methods to make a print. We will also use the commercially available gelli plates and learn how they differ from the real gelatin. Prints can be as abstract or representational as the artist desires. Class is suitable for all ages. About Monotypes: Monotype is the most painterly form of printmaking. Effects can be achieved that can not be created by other printing processes. I use gelatin as the plate upon which the paint is applied, using both additive and subtractive methods, until satisfied with the result. BFK Rives paper applied carefully onto the painted gelatin, rubbed lightly, then lifted to reveal the print which is in reverse of the application on the plate. Each print is an original as only one print can be obtained using this process. When a monotype has an underlying matrix, repeatable in subsequent prints, it then becomes a monoprint. Material/Supply List Instructor will provide supplies. We will be using cardstock to print on. If you would like to use any other type of paper you may bring it to the class. |
