Participants will create a 12” square mosaic using a wide variety of tile, stained glass and mirror. Tile nipping and glass cutting will be taught as well as grouting. To ensure a successful design, students will learn about the principles and elements of design and the dos and don’ts of creating a strong mosaic design. Participants may bring special tiles, broken dishes, glass or other objects they would like to incorporate into their design. Grouting and a hanging fit will be done at the second meeting.
Diane Emerson: INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Diane Emerson is a longtime resident of Burlington County, NJ and a former public-school art teacher who works from her home studio located in Medford, NJ. Diane’s tile work reflects her love of nature. Many of her tiles are made from molds created from actual natural objects such as leaves and acorns. She likes to incorporate stained glass, mirror, handmade tiles and factory-made tiles into her designs. The Burlington County native has participated in the AtlantiCare Healing Arts Program for eight years. Her ceramic tile designs are displayed in five South Jersey facilities. In 2006 the artist was featured on HGTV’s “That’s Cleaver” where she demonstrated the humorous side of tile making. In 2009 one of her handmade tiles was selected to appear in the Lark Crafts publication, “500 Prints on Clay” and her ceramic tile piece “Sedum and Birch” was juried into the 2016 NJ Annual Fine Arts Show in Atlantic City. Diane’s work is a part of many private collections though out the United States.
