Shodo (Calligraphy)
Shodo is the art of calligraphy and translates to “the way of artistic handwriting or beautiful writing”. It is one of the oldest art forms originating in Japan. The practice is made up of different techniques of using brushes and ink along with a spiritual sense of calmness. The meditative element is just as important as the use of line and shape and it comes from the philosophy of Zen Buddhism.
